Believe it or not, blanket season is coming! There are so many options in blankets, it can be hard to decide what blanket to use. What is the difference between a turnout blanket, and a stable blanket?
Turnout blankets are designed for outdoor use. They are waterproof and breathable. This means they will keep your horse dry in rain, ice, and snow. They also breathe, allowing sweat to evaporate if your horse's romping works up a sweat in the pasture.
Stbale blankets are designed for indoor use. They are not waterproof, and so if used outdoors can mean a wet, cold horse. They are ideal for in the stable where your horse is kept away from the elements.
Stable blankets can be used as a layer under turnout blankets, providing additional warmth under a waterproof turnout layer.
It is important to use the proper blanket for the proper situation. Be sure to always use the right blanket, and your horse will stay warm, dry and comfortable all year long.
